Angus Yiu

The Forever Beginner
Some designers focus on a single type of products all their lives, while some choose to engage in several fields. The designer of Eastcolight, Angus Yiu, belongs to the latter. He has been a designer of glasses, fashion items, gifts etc., before it comes to the making of toys this time. In his AR Micro-Blocks 18 Plankton, Bacterial & Viruses Set, modules connected by magnets can be arranged into a microscope, macro camera and sample projector. Combining with the augmented reality (AR) technology, moving planktons and bacterial can be observed.

Learn More than Design
Taking the challenge in different fields, does is mean he needs more skills than other designers? Angus however emphasized that all designers are the same in the sense that a "beginner spirit" is needed, "Design by itself is related to technology, visual art, marketing, etc., Learning is endless, but don't be scared. Talk with people, exchange ideas, and ask questions,", Angus advises.

Presentation skills and the promotion are also keys to success for a product. Joining the Hong Kong Smart Design Awards, Angus do not only long for the award itself, but more importantly for the delivery of design concepts, "this is an opportunity to present to the public and create a desire for the product,", said Angus.
