Eastman Tang: The Designer's Mission

For the world of design today, ideas and creativity are just the basic admission tickets.

With the thirst for UX (user experience) and UI (user interface) design talents, acquaintance with related knowledge is expected on designers.

As new blood in the product design industry, Eastman Tang agrees that designers cannot escape from smart tech, but shall not put the cart before the horse, “I don’t resist smart tech. it can be combined with our designs, but you always have to remember your profession: product design.” said Eastman.

Design is a Profession
Profession is much more than skillset. Sensitivity and observation allow a product designer to see things from a different angle, discover problems and solve them. Inspired by the hygiene issues in trimming his pet’s nails, Eastman designed the Pet Nail Grinder Vacuum and won the International Design Award last year.

An Artist's Perseverance
Excellent designers are open to feedbacks, trends, new ideas and cultures, but it’s themselves who make an ultimate decision on what to design and how. Confidence in deciding what products the mass needs, plus a bit of the “traits of artists”, are crucial, "The mass may want functions, but we are not just the observants. We have an artistic sense," explained by Eastman. Designers are the ones to strike the balance between appearance and functionality, with their mastery of design skills and theories.
