(Hong Kong, 05 November, 2021) Organized by The Hong Kong Exporters' Association (HKEA) and sponsored by Hong Kong SAR’s CreateHK, the Hong Kong Smart Design Awards 2022 (HKSDA) has officially kicked off with aims to shine a global spotlight on Hong Kong designs. As HKSDA dives into its 11th year, it welcomes esteemed guests like Victor Tsang Chiu-Hok, Head of CreateHK; Ms. Sophia Chong, Assistant Executive Director, Hong Kong Trade Development Council; Dr Joseph Wong, Executive Director of Hong Kong Design Centre, plus a number of local designers. In the officiating ceremony, industry leaders discussed the means to propel the local design market to better tomorrows.

Since 2012, HKSDA has successfully promoted original, homegrown designs onto the international stage and has encouraged corporations to upgrade and expand to fast-growing markets in Mainland China and Southeast Asia so to diversify risks and seize new opportunities. As an industry leader, HKEA strives to guide this city of creativity into the global spotlight. In the past decade, winning designs of HKSDA have reached the eyeballs of 125,000 buyers globally, as such successfully catapulting local design onto the world stage.

Looking to 2022, HKSDA will continue to pave a path for Hong Kong designs to shine on the global stage, especially in Mainland China and Southeast Asia. Winning designs will be showcased in Shenzhen, Bangkok, Tokyo and more with the expectation of touching 200,000 buyers. In Hong Kong, this year’s winning works will also be displayed at the Hong Kong Convention Centre’s Hong Kong Gifts & Premium Fair in April 2022.

This year's theme: BE PROUD OF HONG KONG DESIGN
Themed around “Be Proud of Hong Kong Design”, HKSDA encourages local businesses and creators to put on their thinking caps to find balance between design and function with creations that not only make our city proud, but also focus on an innovative spirit of “LOOK WHO WANNA BE A SMART ONE”. Since its debut in 2012, more than 2,300 companies and organisations have signed up with more than 4,300 participating designs – this is testament to the briming creativity in our city. As HKSDA rings in its 11th year, it hopes to amplify its SMART DESIGN category in efforts to promote Hong Kong designers’ attention to both function and aesthetics.
