Design Begins with Life Experiences
When Leo Lee, currently a student at the Hong Kong Polytechnic University, was asked about the relationship between life and design, he was still in Secondary School. The youngster has finally written down "Design Begins with Life Experiences", which is the design principle he still upholds in the design career. The UVC toilet sterilizer designed by Leo is a typical example. The idea came from the transmission of coronavirus through bathroom pipes. While trying to figure out the remedies, Leo thought of destroying the virus in bathrooms by UVC disinfection technology.

The Skill Set of a Designer
As UVC light could cause skin damages and thus danger to the family members, much research work is done to solve the problem. Leo finally decided to add a sensor: when there is someone is within 1.5 meters, the UVC light will be automatically off; and the highest energy of UVC light is released only when the toilet plate is covered. Knowledge in engineering area is obviously important in the above design process. The skill set of a designer is not merely about aesthetics, “We need knowledge of engineering, smart technology etc., so that our products advance with the times,", said Leo.
