Product as the Common Language
Face-to-face communication is rare these days, under both social distancing measures plus the phubbing culture. Malou Ko, founder of THE CABINET, hopes to bring people closer through product design.

The ancient Chinese painted symbolic and auspicious ideas on porcelain to express wishes. Keeping the style of traditional porcelain, Malou combined it with the desires of the modern generation in designing Wishes Plate, - "pretending to work hard", "gaining likes on social media" and "being the son of the rich". With a unique sense of humor, a conversation is naturally struck up at the dining table.

Break the Boundaries
The product bridges the gap between ancient art and modernity, and establishes a common language for people of different cultural backgrounds. When Malou chose what to paint on the plates, both Chinese and foreigners are taken into account. "The three selected wishes resonate with both Chinese and Westerners.", Malou explains. Established for over ten years, Wishes Plate is the first self-designed product. The Hong Kong Smart Design Awards and other awards have given Malou a booster, "I will design more products in the future to enhance communication.”, said Malou.
