Royce Yu: Design From Hong Kong, and For Hong Kong

 
Turning a hobby into a career is the wish of many. Royce Yu is no exception. He is interested in product design since Secondary school, and now he has over 10 years of experience as a product designer. He has not stopped integrating his hobby into his work. That is how the DACH was born.
 
The Character of Hong Kong
Specializing in camping and outdoor products, DACH is originated from Royce's camping experience in Japan. Thousands of Japanese campers brought sofas, kitchen sets and gathered on the big lawn. A great cultural shock hit him though he knew it is normal, "It's actually ‘very Japanese’. Most of them drive so naturally they will bring large items," said Royce

Royce then understands that it is actually the Hong Kong’s character for everything to multi-functional, portable and avoid occupying much space. Is it possible to turn the character into our unique products? DACH Lunar Lanterns are in line. Though small, they can be used as torches, hanging lights, wireless chargers and more. The design with a touch of luxury makes it even a home decoration to create a camping atmosphere.
 

 

Make an Impact by Local Culture
Royce determines not to sacrifice our local characteristics and needs for the sake of global market. Instead, the uniqueness is a culture that will make an impact. "The perspective of Hong Kong people may be a new inspiration for people in other regions,” Royce stresses the importance of the diversity of design.

In fact, the products of DACH have entered the Japanese market. No matter where it goes, a brand with its own character can always find the appreciative audience.

Royce, winner of Red dot and iF design award, holds a Master Degree in Design of Hong Kong Polytechnics University. He had more than10-year experience in innovative product development with extensive exposure to a very broad scope of design field: pet product, medical device, cleaning and electronic product. Royce is strong at breakthrough product R&D and branding and leads the design team over 4 years.
