“As designers pay attention to user experience, they are not easily replaced by artificial intelligence.”

When an ordinary thing falls into the hands of a designer, possibilities arise. As a book lover, Co-founder & Director of AlphaCube Group Limited, Fai Leung, found that most bookmarks lack interactivity. He started to imagine how bookmarks could be different, and created the Dragon Dance Book Mark. Readers can place parts of the bookmarks on several pages of the book, and the dancing dragons of different forms are present.

Before the design and production process, Fai has gathered information about paper-crafting and dragon dancing. He believes that combining tradition and modernity is a feasible direction for future Hong Kong design, and it is worth spending more time to investigate in this issue, “Foreigners are very interested in Chinese culture. Hong Kong designers can just grasp this advantage,” Fai explains.

Irreplaceable Role of Designers
With the prevalence of artificial intelligence recently, Fai regards it as an auxiliary tool to replace cumbersome steps in the design processes, “As designers pay attention to user experience, they are not easily replaced by artificial intelligence,” Fai believes.

However, designers who want to pursue progress can no longer work behind closed doors. In addition to communicating with each other, learning from the mainland and overseas can be a chance for advancement. Connecting with the community will also allow designers to understand the needs of the public, and create better products.
