Crafting the mahjong tiles from paper requires precision in size and thickness, sometimes necessitating trade-offs. One of the designers, Cyclone LAI, explained, "Initially, we aimed to make the tiles as large as the traditional ones, but slightly reduced the size at last due to technical limitations. However, we tried hard to maintain the signature ‘Pan!' sound of playing mahjong. We processed the paper with high pressure, pushing to the limit in terms of its thickness.”

Aesthetics, Functionality, and Sustainability All in One
The Director of Beluga Limited, Nicholas YUM, further shares that many of their products are made with eco-friendly materials. For example, washable kraft paper, on which colors or patterns can be printed, is both water-resistant and biodegradable. “Many Hong Kong people lack a thorough understanding of environmental protection and assume that paper means fragility. In fact, through precise calculation, paper products can possess both aesthetic appeal, sustainability, and functionality,” said Nicholas.
